guess who’s still here. shocking, innit (how is everyone)

“Oh, you’re here!” Ukai offers you a half-smile, cigarette between his teeth as usual. He beckons you inside the store. “Just gimme a minute, finishing closin’ up right now.”

“You’ve been busy lately, huh, Keishin?” You catch the keys he throws to you and help him lock the doors. His smile turns into something more of a grimace.

“I guess so. Those kids are a handful, and I’ve already got my hands tied back here…” He turns back to you with a warmer smile. “But I guess it’s worth it, heh.”

You feel your heart skip a beat. “Up for the usual udon place?” Ukai offers you his hand, and you smile as you take it.

“Always.”

“…And then, Azumane just falls on his face, completely missing the receive, but his heel somehow gets it when he’s falling,” Ukai cackles loudly before downing the rest of his beer. You and the customers lining the wooden bar stools laugh along.

“How ‘bout another round? It’s on meee…” He’s slurring now. You quickly stand up.

“Keishin, that’s probably enough for today.” You sling his arm over your shoulders, though more than a bit tipsy yourself, as the other bar patrons bemoan their loss of a free beer.

“Mm…okaaay…you guys see this?” Ukai points at you unstably as you excuse the two of you and thank the owner. “My darlin’…my darling takes care of me.”

Suddenly, his free arm is around you and his lips on your cheek. You feel yourself flush redder, a brighter shade than the alcohol’s tint.

“Keishin!” Half of the drunks whoop, and you hear a few others grumble something in jealousy. Ukai simply gives you a toothy grin that stays on his face, continuing to basically hang himself off of you as the two of you meander out of the restaurant.

“Keishin, you’ve got some guts kissing me in the middle of our regular noodle place,” you huff.

“Ahh, they know we’re together anyway,” he flaps his hand dismissively. “Besides, they should know.”

He plants a bigger, lingering kiss on your lips this time, his free hand reaching up to touch your cheek. You feel like your face is now hot enough to start a fire on this cold winter night. He straightens up a bit and slightly pulls away from the kiss, his smile returning.

“I love you, baby.”
